Adult Learning in a post COVID world

The evolving landscape of workplace training has become more crucial than ever, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe the article "Training After COVID-19: Three Key Changes That Are Here to Stay" resonates deeply with the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

First, the shift towards asynchronous training is undeniable. The ability to adapt to in-person, hybrid, and remote working environments is paramount. To prepare for this change, I recognize the need to prioritize an LMS that can be accessed from anywhere, as well as software that enables employees to stay connected, like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. This can ensure that employees can access training anytime, anywhere, fostering higher engagement and completion rates. The flexibility offered by mobile training aligns with the demands of a workforce navigating the complexities of remote and hybrid work setups.

Second, the article emphasizes the importance of combating the forgetting curve through microlearning. Recognizing that human memory has limitations, my focus is on breaking down training content into digestible chunks. By incorporating bite-sized training concepts, we increase the likelihood of information retention, resulting in better application of knowledge in practical situations. This aligns with the need for agile, efficient, and effective learning experiences.

Third and final, the call to ensure training works for all employees is imperative. Understanding the 'why' behind the training and its direct relevance to how it will improve the learners daily life is crucial. To prepare for this change, I can adopt an employee-led and employee-focused approach. The training offered should be perceived as a valuable investment in the employees' skill development, addressing their daily challenges and contributing to their professional (and personal, in my opinion) growth.

In conclusion, the future of workplace training demands a paradigm shift. By embracing asynchronous training, leveraging microlearning, and prioritizing employee-centric approaches, I can navigate the evolving landscape successfully. The key lies in creating an optimal training environment that aligns with the dynamic needs of the workforce, ensuring that the learning experiences are not only agile but also tailored to the employees' real-world challenges.
